| For vocabulary | Lexpad | Quizlet |
|---|---|---|
| Made for | The vocabulary you meet yourself, in 81 languages | Study sets for any subject |
| Getting cards | Type a word; AI writes meanings, examples, pronunciation and level. Or save it from a web page, any app on a computer, a Kindle or a chat with ChatGPT or Claude | Type or paste terms, build a set from your notes, use a set someone else made, or ask for a set inside ChatGPT with Quizlet’s ChatGPT app (since 11 March 2026) |
| Ready-made content | None, by design | Sets shared by other learners and teachers |
| Schedule | Five Leitner boxes by default (today, 1, 3, 7, 21 days, then 45 days up to a year), or per notebook the Smart schedule: FSRS-6, Beta, free. Each word’s page shows its next check | Its App Store listing says Quizlet “resurfaces exactly what you need to review, right when you need it”, and Learn adapts as you improve. Quizlet does not name its algorithm there |
| In ChatGPT and Claude | An official connector for ChatGPT and Claude, free on every plan: save words to your notebook, see what is due and get quizzed; answers count toward your boxes | An app in ChatGPT since 11 March 2026: connect a Quizlet account, ask ChatGPT for Quizlet by name, and it makes a flashcard set from a prompt or uploaded notes |
| Practice | Flashcard, recall, multiple choice, cloze, spelling, listening; seven games and drills | Flashcards, Learn, practice tests |

Where Quizlet is better
- Sets made by others. If your class or textbook has a set, you can start studying in a minute. Lexpad has no shared library.
- Teachers and classes. Quizlet has teacher plans; Lexpad is made for one learner’s own notebook.
- Any subject. Biology terms, dates, formulas. Lexpad keeps only words and phrases.
- A native iPhone app. The iPhone and iPad app is in Apple’s App Review; until then, use the web app in Safari.
- Practice tests before an exam on a fixed set.
Where Lexpad is better
- Your own words. The words from your novel, series or job are not in anyone’s set. In Lexpad you type a word and AI writes the meanings, examples, pronunciation and level; you can change anything.
- Saving words where you meet them. A browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox keeps the word with its sentence; on a Mac or a Windows PC, select a word in any app and press ⌘⇧L or Ctrl+Shift+L; Kindle look-ups import in one file.
- A schedule you can see. Every word sits in one of five boxes and its page says when it comes back. Mastered words wait 45, 90, 180 and then 365 days, so you keep them for years with few reviews.
- Many languages, both directions. 81 languages in any pair; Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Urdu and Pashto run right to left on their own side of the card.
- Offline. Your notebooks, practice and progress work without a connection and sync later.
Moving a Quizlet set into Lexpad
You can move any set you created yourself. Quizlet does not let you export a set you copied from someone else (Quizlet Help Center).
Step by step
- On the Quizlet website, open your set, choose the more menu (…) and then Export.
- Keep a tab between term and definition and a new line between rows, then choose Copy text.
- In Lexpad, open Settings, then Import & export, then Paste a list, and paste the text.
- Check the first cards as they will read. If the definitions came first, Lexpad turns the columns round when they are in another writing system; otherwise tap Swap word and meaning. Then tap Add 40 words (the count follows your set).
- Words already in your notebook are skipped and counted, and Undo takes the import back. Open any word and use Improve with AI to add examples and pronunciation.
Your Quizlet progress does not come across: every word starts in box 1. A definition with a comma stays whole. Paste a list is on the web app since 17 October 2026, in the Android app and in Lexpad for Mac and Windows; in an older build, save the text as quizlet.txt and use Import words. A definition that runs over several lines? Paste the export into the free export fixer first; it joins the lines and downloads a clean CSV.
Both work in ChatGPT, in different ways
Since 11 March 2026 Quizlet has an app in ChatGPT (Quizlet’s announcement): connect your Quizlet account, ask ChatGPT for Quizlet by name, and it turns a prompt or uploaded class notes into a new Quizlet flashcard set.
Lexpad’s connector works with the notebook you already keep, in ChatGPT and in Claude. Ask the assistant to save a word you met in the chat, show the words due today or quiz you; each answer counts toward the word’s box, as in the app. It is free on every plan. How to connect it.
Using both
Some learners keep a course set in Quizlet for a test, and put the words they meet outside class into Lexpad, where they come back for months. Nothing stops you from doing both: Lexpad’s free plan has no word limit.
