Paste any text and tap the words you don’t know. You get a CSV that Anki imports in one step, or the words straight into a Lexpad notebook. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is chosen for you.
Made by Reza Pirighadim, who makes Lexpad. Tested on 21 October 2026 in Chromium with English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Persian text.

Paste a text
Your text stays on this device. This page reads it in your browser: nothing is uploaded or stored, and you need no account. It uses no AI and picks nothing for you.

Keep these words in Lexpad
The button copies your words, one per line, and opens Lexpad’s Paste a list box. Paste them there, check them and tap Add. Then Fill with AI writes the meanings, examples and pronunciation.
Free account, no card. Nothing is added until you tap Add.
What you download
| File | What is in it | Import it in |
|---|---|---|
text-words-anki.csv | Four settings lines that Anki reads (comma as the separator, HTML on or off, the tag lexpad-text, the column names), then one row per word: Word, Sentence (the first sentence of your text that holds it), Source (what you typed in the box, or empty). | Anki 2.1.54 or later: File, Import |
text-words-lexpad.csv | A word, meaning heading, then one row per word with an empty meaning. No sentence: Lexpad keeps an example only with a meaning, so the sentence would have nowhere honest to go. | Lexpad: Settings, Import & export, Import words |
The tool never adds a word, a meaning or a translation: everything in the files comes from your text and your taps.
Import the file into Anki
- In Anki on a computer, choose File, then Import, and pick
text-words-anki.csv. - Anki reads the settings lines at the top: a comma between fields, three columns and the tag
lexpad-texton every note. - Choose a note type and a deck. With the Basic note type, map Word to Front and Sentence to Back, or keep the sentence on the front as a clue.
- Choose Import. Add the meanings in Anki as you review.
The settings lines follow the Anki manual’s file headers, which Anki 2.1.54 and later read (Anki manual, text files). With bold on, the file uses HTML so the word stands out in its sentence.
Bring the words into Lexpad
- Copy and open in Lexpad copies the words, one per line, and opens Paste a list in Settings, Import & export. A new account gets the same box once its two languages are chosen. Paste, check the list, and tap Add N words. Words already in the notebook are skipped and counted.
- Or import
text-words-lexpad.csvwith Import words. - The words arrive without meanings. Fill with AI writes the meanings, examples and pronunciation for all of them at once; the free plan has 25 AI cards a day (400 a month). Or write your own.
Inside Lexpad, Paste a text does the same as this page, and Words worth keeping (Pro) lets AI mark the expressions worth keeping for you, with their sentences. More: Words worth keeping and Paste a text.
Choosing words worth a card
- Tick a word you met, did not know, and would like to use or understand next time. Leave out names, and words you could guess at once.
- A short text read closely is worth more than a long one skimmed: ten words from a page you understood are easier to keep than fifty from one you did not.
- Keep the sentence: meeting a word again in the place you first saw it is a strong cue. The Anki file keeps it for you.
Picking words from what you read has a name: sentence mining. More on reading with a notebook: Remember new words from books and Save new words while reading online.
How this page reads your text
- It runs the same word splitter as Lexpad’s Paste a text, ported to this page: a word is a run of letters, so “well-known” and “don’t” stay whole; every different word is listed once, in the order you read it.
- Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Lao, Khmer and Burmese have no spaces between words, so your browser’s own word splitter (
Intl.Segmenter) divides them. A browser that can only split Chinese or Japanese into single characters says so above the list. - Capital letters do not make a second word (“The” and “the” are one), but accents do: “año” and “ano” are two words, as they are in a Lexpad notebook.
- No word is ticked to begin with, and nothing is suggested: you know which words you don’t know.
- Up to 2,000 different words are shown at once; paste a longer text in parts.
- Nothing is sent or saved: no upload, no cookies, no storage in the browser. Close the tab and the page forgets the text.

Questions
Does it use AI?
No, this page does not. It splits the text and you pick. Inside Lexpad, Words worth keeping (Pro) does use AI to mark expressions for you, and Fill with AI writes the meanings after you add words.
Which languages work?
Any script. Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Lao, Khmer and Burmese are split into words by your browser; other languages are split at spaces and punctuation.
Can I make an .apkg?
No, the tool makes a CSV. Anki imports it with File, Import.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The page reads it in your browser and keeps nothing. The Lexpad button copies the words to your clipboard and opens a fixed address that holds none of them.
Why are no words ticked?
You know which words you don’t know; we don’t guess. Tap the ones you want.
