Where Clozemaster is better

  • Lots of reading in context, ready to go. Thousands of sentences per language mean you never run out of practice.
  • Frequency first. Sentences are sorted so the most common words come first, a sound plan once you know the basics.
  • Listening. Pro has cloze listening, where you hear the sentence before you see it, in 30+ languages.
  • A native iPhone app. The iPhone and iPad app is in Apple’s App Review; until then, use the web app in Safari.

Where Lexpad is better

  • Your own words. A frequency list is the same for everyone; the words in your book, job or series are yours. Lexpad keeps exactly those.
  • A card for each word. AI writes the meanings in your language, examples with translations, pronunciation and level, and you can change anything.
  • Saving where you read. The browser extension and the desktop shortcut keep the word with the sentence it was in.
  • A schedule you can see, per word: its box and its next date.

Using both

Clozemaster shows you a lot of words in context. Some of them will not stick, and some of the sentences will send you to words you want to keep. Put those into your own notebook, with the sentence, and they come back on a schedule. Lexpad’s cloze card does the same exercise on your own example sentences: the word is blanked out and you fill it in.

Comparing other ways to drill words? Spaced repetition for vocabulary explains the schedules, and Anki alternatives lists flashcard apps.
